Maddie's Trails

Mt Jumbo via the SaddleOne Way 2.0 miles, 1050 feet

The perfect in-town "workout" hike with a panoramic view.

Description

From the parking lot, head up the trail (you walk up the gated dirt road for a somewhat more gradual climb to the saddle).  When you reach an old 2-track, turn right.  This trail takes you to the top. There are a few intersecting trails, but if you keep heading ‘up’, you can’t go wrong.  At about the halfway point, you’ll reach a false summit.  You can see the trail drop a ways before continuing the climb. If you take the side trail to your right, you’ll reach a nice view point (see photo “halfway up Mt Jumbo”).

On a clear day, you get a wonderful view of town, the Bitterroots, the Rattlesnake and Marshall canyon.

This hike is almost perfect workout - as it’s a steady, 45 minute climb. It’s popular enough that on nice spring or fall days, it can be almost crowded.

Getting There

Drive north on Rattlesnake Drive. Turn right onto Lincoln Hills Drive and follow the road all the way to the top until you reach the parking area below the Jumbo Saddle.
