This is an easy, almost flat hike with nice views. You end up at a little, pretty lake in Idaho.
Start out on the gated road. The trail leaves the old road in about 1/4 mile. The trail then climbs for about 3/4 mile to the stateline (which is signed). Follow the trail as it contours around a ridge to your right. About 1/2 mile before you reach Kid Lake, the trail forks. Stay left for Kid Lake. It’s signed, but the sign was obscured by tree branches when we hiked it. If you stay right, you’ll climb to a saddle that overlooks one of the Cedar Log Lakes. The views of Kid Lake from this trail are better than the lake itself, because you look across the lake to craggy peaks.
The lake itself is small with at least one established campsite. It’s a pretty setting, but not a spectacular one.
I90 to Fish Creek Road (Exit 66). Left back under the freeway. Follow Fish Creek Road for 17 miles. Turn right on Surveyor Lake (it’s signed) FR7734. You’ll pass Lower Schley trailhead after about 12 miles; 3 more miles to the end of the road and Upper Schley trailhead.
