An easy stroll along Spring Creek. A nice x-country ski in the winter.
From the main trailhead, walk half a mile to the first bridge. Take the single track to the left, marked by a sign for Stuart Peak. The trail soon catches up with the creek to the right. There is a bridge at about the one mile mark, but continue on for this hike. The Curry Gulch trail comes in from your left, but stay right to continue up Spring Creek. About two miles up there is another trail junction - go right again and cross the bridge. You are now heading back to the main Rattlesnake corridor. The trail on this side of the creek is mostly in the shade and is wider. I prefer it over the single track for biking and skiing, and definitely on a hot summer day. Look for raspberries along the creek in late summer.
From the I-90 Van Buren exit drive about 4 miles north on Rattlesnake Drive being sure to make the right turn at about 2.5 miles. Turn left on Sawmill Gulch Road and drive another 0.2 miles, crossing the bridge over Rattlesnake Creek, and turn right into the parking area. One busy days you may have to park on the road. Note the horse-only trailhead is another half mile up Rattlesnake Drive.
